Loren has some great information about the film in her post today, but I wanted to weigh in as well. What a great film this was! High production value with great information and a well thought out way of delivering the information. I highly recommend seeing it, as it currently is on most On Demand playlists.
There were many eye opening moments for me. I will share only one with you. The chicken farms were filled with oversize breasted chickens that had been fed an antibiotic that speeds up their maturing process—ensuring uniform size. Because of this, the chickens are only able to take a few steps. (There was one scene in particular that I won’t soon forget.) The farmer was shooing the chickens around to identify the dead chickens for removal— done the same day they were harvested!
Learning that a select few companies control the meat market and soy bean production should worry us. Knowing that some of these giant companies’ former employees are now key political figures with influence on labeling laws should also be unsettling.
Eating is a habit we do most often in our life. We are what we eat and we should take the time to know where our food is coming from and connect with it. It is a huge part of our well-being.
